Sandra L. Lopez Varela
Sandra L. Lopez Varela is a full-time research professor and co-founder of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Morelos (UAEM), Mexico. She completed her undergraduate degree at the Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia, and then obtained her M.A. in Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology of the University College London, and her Ph.D. in Archaeology at the University of London. She received the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Prize from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 2012. She is currently holding the Archaeology Seat of the American Anthropological Association. She has served as President of the Society for Archaeological Sciences (2009-2011) and as President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation-Mexico (2008-2010). Since 2009, she is a Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, Arts, Technology and Humanities.
