Judi Beischel

Judi Beischel is a Department Commander for the American Legion. She joined the Coast Guard reserve in 1973 and trained in Yorktown, VA. She served at the Oswego, N.Y. Coast Guard Station and later served out of the Phoenix unit where she had duty out of San Diego and Los Angeles on the Small Boat Ops Search and Rescue Teams. She received meritorious service and expert marksman ribbons and qualified as a Coxswain on both 30 and 41 foot boats. She attained First Class Boatswain Mate and was honorably discharged in October of 1980. Judi served as Area Vice President for local 8519 of the Communication Workers of America. While VP she organized the Special Service Technicians to wire the Phoenix VA Hospital for the PT Phone Home project which provided phones in every patients room. She has served on the allocation board for the United Way of Arizona and received U.S. West’s “ Theodore Vail “ lifesaving award for administering the Heimlich maneuver. She retired from quest in 2001 after 34 years of service. Judi is a member of WIMSA, Women In Military Service to America and has worked with MANA house a transitional home for Veterans experiencing homelessness. Judi is married to her husband Jim, she has one daughter and two stepdaughters. Together they have four grandchildren
