Dr. Cheryl L. Mejta

Dr. Cheryl L. Mejta is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Illinois. She has over 35 years of experience as a professor, researcher, and administrator. Currently, she is the Chair of the Department of Addictions Studies and Behavioral Health at Governors State University located in University Park, Illinois. Throughout her career, she has focused upon the psychological aspects of health and illness. Her interest in complementary and alternative medicine emerged when she observed people with chronic illness receiving limited relief from allopathic medicine. She also saw the focus on treating the immediate symptoms but paying little attention to preventing a recurrence of that illness or the development of another illness. This led her to studying complementary and alternative medicine as ways to improve the health and well-being of people diagnosed with chronic illnesses or diseases. To impart what she learned to others, she developed and teaches an undergraduate course on comparative complementary and medicine. She also is co-editing, with Dr. Serena Wadhwa, a book on complementary and alternative medicine systems and approaches.
