Gabriela is a survivor, advocate and public speaker. She has volunteered in various organizations and continues to work on projects that will inspire and empower other women to speak out. She is also passionate about raising awareness, prevention and engaging men and boys to end violence against women. Gabriela is a member of the Survivors Committee for the Violence Prevention Coordinating Council (VPCC ) Durham. She is a member of the United Way speaker’s bureau and shares her story at corporate events. She has also volunteered at Ernestine's Women's Shelter acting as an Ambassador and member of the Ernestine Affair committee. In January 2014 she participated in a challenge called "Mothers and Sons Against Violence Against Women" and climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in an effort to raise funds for programs to engage and educate men and boys on violence against women. She is currently pursuing a career as a life coach and is very passionate about providing resources and support to women who find themselves in abusive relationships, and engaging the community to eliminate the stigmas attached to violence against women and support the victims .
