Denis Lapointe



Born in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, where he completed his elementary and high school studies, he then entered the Polytechnique school of Montreal where he obtained an industrial engineer’s degree as well as a master in environmental engineering. He worked as an environmental engineering consultant for 15 years in his own company. His expertise in the field of water treatment and waste waters led him to become involved in organizations such as AQTE today know as Environmental Network of which he has been chairman, the AWWA and the WEF. He has received many distinctions in his professional field. He has worked as a consultant for CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) in many countries of the world, in Africa, Central America and South America. He began his political career in 1995 when he was elected mayor of the City of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. He sits as Chairman on the Board of Directors of the Quebec Municipalities Union and chairs the permanent commission on the environment in this organization. Since 2005, he is Chairman of the Quebec Network of Healthy Cities and Towns. He sits as the Chairman of the Local Development (economic) Center since 2008. He also sits as member of the Board of Directors of the Great Lakes & St.Lawrence Cities Initiative organization.
