Dave Pelzer
As an individual who represents overcoming adversity, Dave Pelzer has dedicated his life to helping others help themselves. His first book, ”A Child Called It,” describes how his mother starved him, forced him to drink ammonia, stabbed him in the stomach, burned his arm on a gas stove, and abused him in other ways. When he was twelve years old, teachers and foster parents rescued him. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, including in the Gulf War, Dave did a huge amount of volunteer work helping trauma survivors. He has received personal commendations from four U.S. Presidents. Dave was the only American to be honored as The Outstanding Young Person of the World. Dave also received the National Jefferson Award, which is considered the Pulitzer Prize for public service. His inspirational books have been on Best Sellers lists for 13 years. Dave is the first author to have four #1 International Best Sellers and to have four books simultaneously on the New York Times Best Sellers List.
