Chris King
Chris King is in his sixth year as Director of Athletics at The University of Texas-Pan American, which is currently transitioning into The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. King has led UTPA Athletics through unprecedented growth while laying a foundation for continued improvement. His most significant accomplishment was securing a spot in the Western Athletic Conference, providing all programs access to NCAA Championship automatic qualifiers for the first time since 1998. Additionally, UTPA Athletics built a new soccer and track & field complex, secured the donation of the baseball stadium from the City of Edinburg, and completed close to 2 million dollars in renovations, including a new weight room and renovations to the basketball and tennis facilities. The departmental cumulative grade point average is 3.07. This past spring, 129 of 220 student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher, including 18 4.0s. The graduation success rate has increased from 54-75 percent from 2010-15.
