Joseph Claunch comes to us with a wealth of experience. Claunch is a member of the Puyallup Tribe in Tacoma, Washington and a second year Ph.D. student in Sport and Exercise Psychology at University of Kansas. Joseph’s research at KU has focused on how Native American student-athletes’ and their coaches’ perceptions of the motivational climate influence their behavior and well-being. Joseph played football and graduated from Haskell Indian Nations University with bachelor’s degree in American Indian Studies. From Haskell, Joseph attended the University of Oregon and graduated with a master’s degree in Education. Since, graduating from Oregon, Joseph has been an academic coordinator of Haskell’s Upward Bound Program, an Offensive Coordinator for Haskell’s football team, and the head high school football coach on the Zuni Pueblo Indian Reservation. In Joseph’s first year at the Zuni High School the football team posted an 8-2 record, best in school history.
