Benjamin Carson is a neurosurgeon and a former GOP candidate in the 2016 presidential election. A Johns Hopkins graduate, Carson was the first surgeon to successfully separate twins conjoined at the head. Carson is the recipient of over 50 honorary awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom bestowed by President George W. Bush in 2008. He has been named one of the nation's ‘20 foremost physicians and scientists’ by Time magazine, and in 2008, the Library of Congress selected him as one of eighty-nine ‘Living Legends.'
