Dr. Gladys McGarey
Dr. Gladys, the Mother of Holistic Medicine, as she is affectionately known, is a 95-year old trailblazer and game-changing physician who has dedicated her 65-year career to changing the face of modern medicine. From her colorful upbringing in exotic 1920’s in India, through a lifetime of inspiring adventures, to her harrowing medical mission to Afghanistan at age 85, Dr. Gladys has dedicated her life to shifting medical paradigms and bringing the concept of holistic and integrative medicine to the masses. Dr. Gladys co-founded the American Holistic Medical Association in 1977. She is internationally recognized for her pioneering work, not only in holistic medicine, but her impact is also evident in the areas of natural birthing and physician-patient partnership. She was the first to utilize acupuncture in the U.S. and trained other physicians how to use it.
