It takes a special kind of horse to be a therapy horse. Ricky is one of Sunshine Ranch Therapeutic Riding’s 3 horses, and boy, is he special! Our horses love people and are very patient, gentle, and honest. They each have their own unique talents, and pair well with different types of riders with various goals. Our students get to work with our horses both on the ground, and on their backs. Horses provide so much physical movement and feedback, which helps our riders to improve strength, balance, independent mobility, coordination, and confidence. Yet they also help us to become more aware of ourselves and our surroundings, evoke empathy, regulate emotions, provide physiological and neurological input, and so much more. One of the greatest things about working with and riding horses is that we experience all of these benefits, while having fun and spending time outside. Most of our students have so much fun at their lessons that they don’t even realized how hard they’re working.
