Dr. Connie Siskowski

Dr. Connie Siskowski, nurse and educator and one of CNN’s Top Ten Heroes in 2012 is the moving force behind the establishment of the American Association for Caregiving Youth. This association includes the Caregiving Youth Project, the first US program to support the hidden population of child caregivers. Personally knowing the challenges of caregiving as a child, and recognizing that there are over 1.4 million children in that role, her dream is for all family caregivers to be honored and respected but especially youth for their contributions to family and to society. She and her team feel strongly that no child in the US should have to drop out of school because he or she has to care for a family member. Her organization has already helped over 1000 child caregivers. She is the recipient of many awards including the Ashoka Fellowship, The Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association The Distinguished Alumna Award, Palm Beach County Medical Society’s Heroes in Medicine Award.
