Natalie Que
Mother, divorcee, apostate, human. Born into an LDS family of 7 and raised in Orem, UT where 90+% of the population was active Mormon; Nat Que was indoctrinated into a life of virginal marriage and traditional roles of the sexes. Married under the shroud of temple secrecy and compliance at the tender age of 21; she promptly moved to Seoul, the land of her husband’s proselyting mission and 2nd language, bearing her daughter as the big wide world unfolded before her eyes, forcing her to examine everything she had been told. Juxtapostioning her Stepford-esque upbringing in the ‘Happy Valley’ bubble became increasingly cognitively dissonant as she moved to Taipei, and then to both Sydney and Melbourne.
Alternate ways of living, and values systems that seemingly worked poverty and riches, coming of age and life’s burning questions caused a massive shift in thinking which led to an apostasy for one, as she left the religion of her birth but her husband did not. Natalie now resides in Utah.
