Luisah Teish


Luisah Teish is a writer, performer, speaker, and artist, author of several books, most notably Jambalaya: The Natural Woman’s Book of Personal Charms and Practical Rituals, a woman’s spirituality classic. She has contributed to 25 anthologies and is referenced in 90 works by various authors. A storyteller drawing materials from the myths and folklore of the African diaspora, she uses guided imagery to engage audiences at conferences, workshops, and in ritual theater. Yeye, as she is known, is an initiated elder in the Ifa/Orisha tradition. Holding a chief’s title (Yeye’woro) from the Fatunmise Compound in Ile Ife, Nigeria, she is a co-founder of the Overground Railroad (with Harriet Tubman Wright and Julia Stege) dedicated to eradication of slavery, restorative justice, and liberation of the human spirit.
