Mimi Schippers


Mimi Schippers received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is Professor of Sociology and Gender and Sexuality Studies at Tulane University. Her research focuses on masculinities, femininities, and the intersection of gender, race, and sexuality in everyday interactions, relationships, and subcultures. Her current research agenda focuses on compulsory monogamy, polyamory, and the queer, feminist, and anti-racist potential of sex and relationships that include more than two people. She is author of Beyond Monogamy: Polyamory and the Future of Polyqueer Sexualities and Rockin’ Out of the Box: Gender Maneuvering in Alternative Hard Rock. She is currently writing her third book, The Polyqueer Gaze: Representations of Monogamy, Polyamory, and the Cultural Production of Inequality.
