Janine Sakatch worked as a reporter and editor for weekly and daily newspapers beginning in 1986 covering education and health for the Lethbridge Herald for seven years. During her career, she won the Alberta Teacher’s Association news writer of the year award four consecutive times; she also won a national award for a series she wrote on bullying in schools. In 2004, she left journalism for a career within corporate communications and has worked with Chinook Health, Alberta Health Services, and 3sHealth. Today, she is the Director of Communications with AHS in Central Zone, located in Red Deer, Alberta. One of her current passions relates to engagement and transparency – building trust through communications. She has seen many examples where lack of engagement and transparency can escalate the risk even though others think it will do the opposite.
