Emil DeAndreis
Emil DeAndreis was born and raised in San Francisco. He attended Lowell High School, and played college baseball at University of Hawaii at Hilo, where he broke the school's record for career appearances as a relief pitcher. He was set to go pitch professionally in Belgium when, at age 23, he got Rheumatoid Arthritis. What happened then is told in “Hard to Grip,” A Memoir of Youth, Baseball and Chronic Illness, (Schaffner Press). He now writes, teaches English at College of San Mateo, and coaches baseball at Lowell High School. He lives with his wife, Kendall, in San Francisco. He is also the author of Beyond Folly (Blue Cubicle Press). He is at work on a novel.
