Lama Surya Das

Lama Surya Das is one of the foremost Western Buddhist meditation teachers and interpreters of Tibetan Buddhism and, as such, has taken a leading role in emerging American Buddhism. The Dalai Lama calls him "The Western Lama.” Surya has spent thirty five years studying Zen, vipassana, yoga, and Tibetan Buddhism with the great masters of Asia, including the Dalai Lama's own teachers. He is an authorized lama (priest and spiritual master teacher) in the Nyingmapa School of Tibetan Buddhism. The Lama is the founder of both the Dzogchen Centers in several states and, with the Dalai Lama, of the Western Buddhist Teachers Network. He is a sought after speaker, the author of many books, active in interfaith dialogue and social activism, contributing editor to “Body and Soul” Magazine, a regular writer for other magazines and sites, as well as founder and board member of many Buddhist monasteries.
