Leonie Haimson

Leonie Haimson is the Executive Director of Class Size Matters and the co-chair of the Parent Coalition for Student Privacy. The Coalition has testified before Congress twice in recent years about the need to strengthen federal laws to protect student privacy. The organization released a Parent Toolkit for Student Privacy last year. She co-founded the organization after leading the fight against InBloom Inc., a corporation funded with more than $100 million from the Gates Foundation that was designed to collect personal student data and disclose it to ed tech vendors without parental consent. Within about a year all nine states and districts that had agreed to participate pulled out of inBloom, and it closed its doors in April 2014. That year, she received an award from Parents Across America for her work on student privacy. In 2015, she was named one of the ten most influential people in ed tech by Tech and Learning Magazine.
