Sir Clive Gillinson

Prior to coming to New York, Sir Clive Gillinson was a celebrated cellist and the Managing Director of the London Symphony Orchestra. He has been the Executive and Artistic Director of Carnegie Hall since 2005. Under his leadership, the institution has gone into many bold new directions, including creating international festivals and large-scale multi-cultural citywide programs that take audiences on multi-media journeys of discovery. He also innovated a fellowship program for the finest post-graduate musicians in the U.S. His most recent initiative is the National Youth Orchestra, a free program that offers an intensive summer residency to the finest young players from the ages of 16-19. Sir Clive has received numerous awards, honorary degrees, and recognition from various governing bodies and artistic organizations across the globe for his outstanding contributions to music. He is the only orchestra manager to be honored with a Knighthood.
