Erica P. Gunderson, PhD, MPH, MS, epidemiologist and senior research scientist, Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research She received her masters and doctorate degrees in public health nutrition and epidemiology from the University of California at Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Stanford University. Dr. Gunderson’s research focuses on the lasting effects of pregnancy and lactation on the development of obesity, metabolic risk factors, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease in women, with a particular interest in the high-risk group of women with a history of gestational diabetes. In addition, she conducts prospective studies in children exposed in utero to maternal obesity and diabetes, and how this influences their future development of obesity and metabolic diseases. Dr. Gunderson has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed original research papers and numerous commentaries and reviews.
