Dr. Daihnia Dunkley, originally from Jamaica, now in New York, has worked largely in maternal-child health in hospital & community healthcare (HC), and academia. She is a FT Assist. Professor of Nursing at Farmingdale State College in Long Island, NY. Her BSN was from Hampton University and Masters & Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the U. of Phoenix. Her career focused on disparities within the HC system & their impact on practitioners & patients of color. She recognized contributing factors of a lack of diverse representation in the HC workforce, systemic racism, & patient mistrust & avoidance of the HC system. Her research on experiences of Black female executive nurse leaders led to founding The League of Extraordinary Black Nurses; a nonprofit nursing organization aimed at supporting current & future Black nurses. Her consulting company, Daihnia’s Joy, LLC., allows her to drive positive change in HC, empower expectant mothers, & inspire nursing professionals.
