Chancellor Kent Syverud

Chancellor Kent Syverud is the 12th Chancellor and President of Syracuse University. A native of Irondequoit in Upstate New York, Syverud came to Syracuse from Washington University in St. Louis, where he served as dean and Ethan A.H. Shepley Distinguished Professor at the School of Law. Prior to that, he served as dean at Vanderbilt Law School and as associate dean for academic affairs, and as professor at the University of Michigan Law School. Chancellor Syverud holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and a law and master’s in economics from the University of Michigan. He continues to teach a course each semester as a member of the College of Law and School of Education faculties. Chancellor Syverud completed six years of service in 2016 as one of two trustees of the 420 billion Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Trust. He also serves as Chair of the Atlantic Coast Conference Board of Directors. He is married to Dr. Ruth Chen and has three children.
