Scott Smith
Scott got his start in investment advising in 1987, after he finished his three-year service in the U.S. Army, where he worked in data telecommunications. After relocating to San Diego with his wife, also an Army veteran, who he met while stationed at the Pentagon together, Scott began work in the IT field with the San Diego Superior Court, where he worked for ten years before starting Compass Financial, LLC, in 2007 and transitioning full-time to investment advising. His favorite clients are his two daughters, one a graduate of Virginia Tech School of Architecture, and the other a nuclear electrician with the U.S. Navy. He launched Compass Financial, LLC, to help people achieve financial stability through sound investing. His guiding principle is that you work hard to make your money, and he’ll work hard to make your money make money. Scott has been following SB 1234, the California Secure Choice mandate, since it was made law in 2016. As he has been educating his clients on this new business mandate, Scott was alarmed to learn how few businesses were actually aware of the existence of this new law and how it will change the way California businesses provide 401K benefits to their employees. And so he has agreed to join us here to talk about it today.
