Josie and Nikki Leali, 16 year old twins, are co-founders ofOcean Heroes New Orleans, a youth-inspired and youth-led conservation group working on plastic pollution solutions. OHNOLA was founded after the Ocean Heroes HQ Bootcamp of 2018 and has youth representation from public, private, and parochial schools as well as elementary, middle and high school students. OHNOLA has successfully hosted several awareness booths, presented to local politicians, convinced local schools to make plastic free choices in their cafeterias, and educated several local restaurants about plastic-free choices. OHNOLA and has an open enrollment policy encouraging all local youth to get involved. Josie Leali is also an Audubon Zoo Junior Keeper and avid Scuba diver. Nikki Leali was the Louisiana Student of the Year for her region in 2020 and is also the founder of Crescent City Reading Buddies where she has redistributed over 100,000 books throughout her community. Josie and Nikki both accumulate over 100 hours of volunteer service annually and are recipients of several national and local grants. #OceanHeroesNewOrleans on Facebook and Instagram.
