Tim Cheney

Tim joined the Foundation staff as director of recruitment and selection in fall 2021, bringing more than 25 years of experience in both college counseling and college admission. Tim previously was director of college counseling for two co-educational boarding and day schools in Massachusetts. He first served in the role for the Williston Northampton School in Easthampton prior to joining Tabor Academy in Marion in 2016. Following his graduation from Connecticut College with a bachelor’s degree in economics and history, he worked for his alma mater in the office of admission for 14 years, ultimately serving as director of admission. Throughout his career, Tim has encouraged students to be flexible and creative thinkers when it comes to pursuing their interests and aspirations, and he’s passionate about increasing college access for underrepresented and first-generation high school students. Tim holds a master’s from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with a concentration in administration, planning, and social policy, and he’s a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC). The director resides in Carrboro, North Carolina, with his wife, Liz. Tim and Liz enjoy the outdoors, exploring local restaurants and spending time with their two adult children, Izzy and Peter.
