Beth Givens

Beth Givens is founder and director of the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, established in 1992. The PRC is a nonprofit consumer information and advocacy program located in San Diego, CA (www.privacyrights.org). Givens developed the PRC Fact Sheet series as author and/or editor. She contributed the entries on identity theft for three encyclopedias. Givens and the PRC represent the interests of consumers in the California Legislature, Federal Trade Commission, and Congress. She has participated in many public policy task forces at the state and federal levels. She is often interviewed by the media. Prior to her work as a consumer advocate, she was a librarian specializing in network development and resource sharing. Givens has a master’s degree from the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication, and a master’s degree in Library and Information Services from the University of Denver. She is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
