Mental health and well-being and the everyday obstacles that make them challenging is the theme of this Planet Classroom show. Orb, the show’s virtual host, unites the creators of 3 films now screening on the Planet Classroom Network YouTube Channel: The Mess, Addiction and Art: Spotlight on Dopamine, and Throw, along with youth voices to discuss some of the challenges of mental health, violence, poverty, and substance abuse. Audiences will get insights into overcoming adversity via coping mechanisms, including the arts and finding one’s purpose.

Dorothy Allen-Pickard

Dorothy is a filmmaker and multidisciplinary theatre-maker from South-East London. In 2019, she received the BFI New Talent Award and was named as one of Broadcast's Hotshots. She has a particular interest in merging aspects of documentary, fiction and theatre to explore subjects such as mental health, disability and the social and political changes that affect those who are marginalised. She's the co-founder and video editor of the film journal Another Gaze and a member of the award-winning multimedia theatre company Breach. Recently, Dorothy completed an MA in Directing Fiction at Goldsmiths University and is currently developing her debut dramatic feature, Weekend Dad.

Margaret Dowell

Margaret Dowell is an award winning artist and art educator. Her artworks have been included in many regional and national exhibitions. She has taught in both the US public schools and higher education. In 2010 she co-edited the book, Addiction and Art (Johns Hopkins University Press) which received much attention including a Highly Commended Award (Psychiatry Category) from the British Medical Association and founded the related website www.addictionandart.org. Dowell holds both a Ph.D. (Curriculum and Instruction) and a MFA from the University of Maryland.
