Approximately 50% of patients entering addiction treatment services have co-occurring posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and are at an increased risk for negative outcomes. Historically, there has been concern regarding addressing PTSD until patients reach stable sobriety. Recently this model has shifted and there is building government support for developing evidence-based treatments for both PTSD and addiction.
