Architect Dion Neutra, son of Richard Neutra, and filmmaker Eames Demetrios, grandson of Charles and Ray Eames, will speak on the legacies of their forbearers as well as their own current projects. Dion Neutra will discuss preservation issues of modern buildings, and Eames Demetrios will talk about his ongoing worldwide project, an alternate history of the world entitled Kcymaerxthaere.

Eames Demetrios

Eames Demetrios is the Director of the Eames Office, which communicates, preserves, and extends the work of his grandparents, Charles and Ray Eames. His projects there include multimedia production, printed materials, exhibition design, and filmmaking. He is also Chairman of the Eames Foundation, which focuses on the preservation of the Eames House, also known as Case Study House #8. He has lectured in 39 countries on six continents on topics such as design, sustainability, and Kcymaerxthaere (an alternate history of the world). Demetrios also curates the online DAS Film Fest.com, which features films on design, architecture and sustainability.

Dion Neutra

Dion Neutra was born in 1926, the same year that his famous architect father, Richard Neutra, formed his practice. At the age of 11, Dion began his apprenticeship at a drafting table in his father’s office. He served in the United States Navy in WWII, studied for a year in Zurich, and then graduated cum laude from USC with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. He became one of the youngest corporate members of the American Institute of Architects at age 24. Since then, the Neutra Practice has developed numbers of award-winning structures—educational, medical, civic, recreational, and residential.
