David holds an engineering degree from Telecom ParisTech, and an MBA from MIT. David has received fellowships and grants from MIT, the Legatum Center, Intel and the Harambe Entrepreneur Alliance, of which he is now a board member. David is fluent in French and English and carries both French and Senegalese passports.

He has held executive leadership roles at other tech for development organization's Ushahidi and QuestionBox. In 2008 he founded Appfrica, one of Africa’s leading consultancies to help technology and media companies enter African consumer markets. In 2009 Jon spoke at TED in Oxford, UK about his work connecting rural African villages to the internet through a call center and light infrastructure.
