Jennie Rees, the veteran horse racing writer for The Courier-Journal, was named the 2013 Kentucky Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. It is her second time receiving the award. For the last 29 years Jennie Rees has been associated with the Louisville Courrier-Journal as a turf writer. She was a member and former president of the National Turf Writers Association. Rees has been in The Courier-Journal sports department since 1981, covering horse racing since 1983.
