After age 65, the fatality rate for drivers begins to climb very significantly. In the 75 to 84-year-old range, it becomes approximately equal to that of teenage drivers. For individuals 85 and older, the fatality rate skyrockets. With the elderly representing a growing segment of the population of the USA, issues of driving safety are becoming more prominent.
