Kathryn interview New York Times bestselling author Firoozeh Dumas, author of “It Ain’t So Awful, Falafel”. Her latest book is based on her own experiences emigrating from Iran to Newport Beach in the 1970’s and how she had to balance being a normal teenage girl with overcoming stereotypes stemming from a tense Iran-American relationship. Dumas is a frequent commentator on NPR and her work appears in The NY Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times.
Kathryn also interviews Harvard trained OB-GYN Amy Tuteur MD, author of “Push Back: Guilt in the Age of Natural Parenting”.

Firoozeh Dumas was born in Abadan, Iran and moved to Whittier, California at the age of seven. After a two-year stay, she and her family moved back to Iran and lived in Ahvaz and Tehran. Two years later, they moved back to Whittier, then to Newport Beach. Firoozeh then attended UC Berkeley where she met and married a Frenchman.

Amy Tuteur

Amy Tuteur, MD is an obstetrician-gynecologist. In 1979, she received a BA in Biochemical Sciences cum laude from Harvard College in 3 years, at the age of 20. She received her MD degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1984. Tuteur completed her internship and residency at Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital (currently Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center). She practiced obstetrics at both the Beth Israel Hospital and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and held an appointment as a Clinical Instructor in Obstetrics at Harvard Medical School.
