Kirtan is a singing and musical experience that involves ancient Sanskrit chants. Instruments such as harmonium, the even or ektrar (a form of string instrument), the tabla (one sided drum), the mrdanga or pakhawaj (two sided drum), flute and karatalas or talas (cymbals) are used while chanting a mantra that consists of ancient sounds.
