Julieann Louise "Julie" Krone

Julieann Louise "Julie" Krone (born July 24, 1963, Benton Harbor, Michigan), is a retired American jockey. In 1993, she became the first female jockey to win a Triple Crown race when she captured the Belmont Stakes aboard Colonial Affair. In 2000 she became the first woman inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. Julie Krone appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated for the issue of May 22, 1989. She is one of only eight jockeys so recognized (the others are Willie Shoemaker, Bill Hartack, Eddie Arcaro, Johnny Longden, John Sellers, Robyn Smith and Steve Cauthen). Jack Gilligan

Apprentice jockey Jack Gilligan, brought home his first U.S. winner on his 18th birthday at Belterra Park aboard Aleutian Queen for trainer Jeremiah O'Dwyer. That was only his sixth ride in the U.S. “My father was a trainer in England, training horses since before I was born, so I was born right into the sport,” Gilligan stated, while making a quick change after the race to head to Indiana to ride later in the day. “I started riding racehorses out on the heath when I was 13-years old, I did pony racing with my first ride at 16. Patrick Gilligan

Patrick Lawrence Gilligan has woven a beautifully written novel that incorporates his own experiences in racing, history lessons of the sport and travels with his wife as they traverse the country in support of their son Jack during his apprenticeship in North America.
