The phenomenon of whitened skin as a superior concept compared to dark skin as inferior, indicates the presence of a structural hierarchy which is still firmly embedded within societies and cultures across the globe. Moreover, the contemporary social understanding and desire for pale skin is closely linked to the rise of global consumerism.
