Louie Palu graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1991 and subsequently moved to New York City on a scholarship where he interned with photographer Mary Ellen Mark. He later returned to Toronto and began working as a photojournalist for newspapers and magazines, including working as a staff photographer for six years at Canada's National Newspaper, The Globe And Mail.
