Human experiences that move us to tears are not gender specific. Yet in the North American culture we are still under the influence of old misconceptions about men and crying. This display of emotion from men has been seen as un-masculine, inappropriate, and sometimes even frightening. It is important to respect that we are all different and the ways that we demonstrate emotion can vary depending on the intensity of the emotion, our overall state of well-being, where we are, and who we are with when we suddenly find ourselves wheeling up with tears.
