From 1999 to 2002, violent clashes between the Muslims and Christians in Maluku, Indonesia, killed over 5,000 and displaced over 500,000 people. Rev. Jacklevyn Manuputty sought to nourish peace in the Maluku Islands of Indonesia which were torn apart by religiously motivated violence. He strengthened communal bonds by co-founding the Maluku Interfaith Institution for Humanitarian Action, (LAIM).
