When a devastating earthquake struck Haiti in 2010, killing upwards of 220,000 people and injuring many more, Patrick Meier was horrified and wanted to help. Rather than donating to a disaster relief organization, like many people did, Patrick made a map. Through analyzing user-generated data from social media produced by people on the ground in Haiti, Patrick was able map important aspects of the crisis in close to "real time."
