Today DeWayne Cecil, PhD Western Region Climate Services Director NOAA-NCDC talks about the Challenges in the federal sector for environmental program funding, and the disaster in Japan and the aftermath around the Pacific Rim. http://tsunami.noaa.gov/ Although a tsunami cannot be prevented, the impact of a tsunami can be mitigated through community preparedness, timely warnings, and effective response. NOAA has primary responsibility for providing tsunami warnings to the Nation, and a leadership role in tsunami observations and research.
