Dr. Kay McGowan

Dr. Kay McGowan is of Mississippi Choctaw and Cherokee heritage. She is a Cultural Anthropologist with degrees from University of Michigan, and PhD from Wayne State University. She teaches Anthropology and Native American Studies at Eastern Michigan University. Kay co-founded First Step, an organization dedicated to ending domestic violence. As Director with the Michigan Citizens Lobby, Kay helped pass the first Generic Drug Law in the US. She was a consultant at the Rosa Parks Foundation’s Pathway to Freedom Program on the Trail of Tears. She is the author of over sixty articles and has contributed to several books.
