Life does NOT happen to us, things do NOT happen to us, God or the Universe or whoever doesn't just arbitrarily bring things into our lives, when understanding how consciousness works. Our own localized consciousnesses each are asking the greater field of consciousness - or God, or divinity, or however you think of it - and we receive what we ask for. We just don't typically recognize this act.
