What is an economy? An economy is the way a society organizes to meet the physical needs of its people. There are local, regional, national and global economies. A local economy is made up of businesses that serve need but also builds the community. When you make a purchase in your community, you contribute to the economy by supporting a business owner. The business owner contributes to the economy by providing goods or services that people want to purchase.
