Joe Kristufek is a self-proclaimed horse racing "ambassador," and fan development has always been his passion. In addition to serving as the Churchill Downs paddock host, Kristufek is also the face of "Racing 101" for America's Best Racing, a fan development specialist for Horse Racing Nation, the morning-line maker for Arlington Park and Kentucky Downs and the handicapper and racing writer for the Daily Herald newspaper in his native Chicago. By managing the Stakes program for the Breeders’ Cup for several years, Conor had an intimate view of the best horses and horseman in America. “For me, working at the Breeders’ Cup was like putting on the Olympics; it created the foundation for my progression to becoming the professional that I am today”. After four years at the Breeders’ Cup, Conor was awarded a place in the Darley Flying Start program. This is a full time, two-year international management training program for potential thoroughbred industry leaders. It sets itself apart from any other program in the world with its dual focus on personal development and leadership as well as its specialization in the international thoroughbred business. Management training is provided by established universities including University College Dublin and the University of Sydney. During the program, trainees live and learn in Ireland, the UK, the US, Dubai and Australia. Each trainee receives a full scholarship from HH Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai. Conor will tell us about his journey from working at Equibase to the Breeders' Cup and ultimately to his current position with Darley America. The face of ABR's "Racing 101", Joe Kristufek is a self-proclaimed horse racing "ambassador," and fan development has been his passion since the moment he took his first job in the industry. Kristufek is the morning-line maker for Arlington Park and Kentucky Downs and he serves as the handicapper and racing writer for the Daily Herald newspaper. Kristufek has developed and executed several horse racing-related, fan-education projects both online and onsite and he is a member of the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters. He has co-owned five horses in partnership and is the process of developing an ownership group of his own. Kristufek is also becoming an increasing presence on the tournament scene. And with Arlington Park offering a big day of racing this Saturday, Joe will help us find some winners in the $150,000 Gr. 3 Modesty Handicap, the $250,000 Gr. 2 American Derby, the $150,000 Gr. 3 Stars & Stripes Stakes and the $200,000 Gr. 3 Arlington Handicap.
