Carl Safina, author of the new book, Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel, is the inaugural holder of the Carl Safina Endowed Research Professorship for Nature and Humanity at Stony Brook University. He is an award-winning author of 6 books. Mr. Safina has a Ph.D. in ecology and is a MacArthur Fellow. And it all began when he was a boy in Brooklyn whose father raised canaries in their apartment.
