If you’ve ever been abused, you may have actually separated from your body. At the time of the abuse, this was a brilliant trick – to dissociate and leave your body so you didn’t have to experience the trauma of the event.
However, this “trick” often gets repeated decades later for people who are still caught in the cage of abuse. They don’t inhabit their body: they live from the neck (or waist) up. They try to figure out life in their heads. All the while viewing their body as a dangerous, uninhabitable place to live.
