We don’t really know how many women have postpartum anxiety. Many women don’t seek treatment, and those who do may be diagnosed with postpartum depression -PPD- rather than anxiety. Some experts say that postpartum anxiety is actually more prevalent than PPD in the days and weeks after giving birth. Yet, we hear little about anxiety or its impact on breastfeeding success. Studies have linked postpartum anxiety to reduced intention to breastfeed, early cessation of breastfeeding, and especially to decreased exclusive breastfeeding. Is there help for postpartum anxiety? Absolutely!
