Mark B. Stephens, MD, is Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in State College, PA. He received his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Puget Sound Family Medicine Residency Program, Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Wash. He is retired from the US Navy having served most recently served as Chair of the Department of Family Medicine. Tom Laux is a Medical Student Design Partner (MSDP) at the Penn State College of Medicine University Park. He attended Swarthmore College and graduated in 2014 with a BA in Psychology and Cognitive Science. While there, he spent a semester studying comparative public health in India, China, and South Africa, focusing on traditional and integrative medicine. Tom spent time in 2013 working as a Mental Health Program Intern at the Carter Center in Atlanta and in 2014 as a research assistant with the Center for Family Intervention Sciences, working with adolescents suffering from suicidal ideation and severe depression. Jason Spicher

Jason Spicher is a Medical Student Design Partner working with the Penn State College of Medicine to help develop the University Park program in State College, PA. Jason grew up in Lancaster, PA and attended Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA where he graduated with a B.S. in Biology in 2015. During his undergraduate years, Jason was involved on campus as the cycling club president. He also enjoyed studying Spanish for a semester in Guatemala and Colombia. Following graduation, Jason spent a year in rural Colorado volunteering at the Alamosa County Public Health Department where he focused on epidemiology and home health.
